Just a random game diary type post…
Remember Me (360): I’ve done a few missions of this game, and I have to say I’m very happy with it so far. It’s awesomely… artsy. I was kind of hoping there would be more unique gameplay elements right off the bat and was kind of disappointed that the basic game design is plain ol’ closed levels and such. But beyond that, I just love how the game is a pretty good mix of Tomb Raider’s level exploration and Beyond Good & Evil’s game mechanics, and has incredibly awesome and pretty level design and world design. I think the game was worth the money for experiencing the art style alone. I appreciate the artsiness. Keep on making cool games, France! =)
Thief: Deadly Shadows (Xbox): I recently gave away my old Xbox 360 to my sister. Unfortunately, it turned out I couldn’t transfer any savegames from Xbox games to the new console, all you can do is delete the damn things. But no matter - revisiting the first levels was kind of fun and even in the first run, I hadn’t run into any really aggravating levels. So I think the replay will go smoothly.
BloodRayne 2 (Xbox): It’s funny how I randomly got stuck playing this thing. I went like “hey, let’s play me some BloodRayne!” and off I went. Really strange. Having run into some vampire stories probably was influential to some degree. But I think I like the game more than I expected to like it, and I hoped there were more games like this on the 360. …I think I need to finish Bayonetta one day, it’s basically the same but 100× the craziness…
Happy Wars (XBLA): I tried this game. Once. Don’t try this game if you have eyeache and you’re undernourished. The fucking colour explosion will make a good wreck of your eyeballs. Also, there were typos around which annoyed me more than it is rational for any person to admit. Aside of that, it looked okay, I guess.
Crackdown (360): A Games for Gold freebie that I actually didn’t have beforehand? Say it ain’t so! (Well, I didn’t have Defense Grid either.) The game looks pretty fun, except the latino gang members emit probably the most annoying shouts ever recorded by video game industry. I hope a friend of mine would be around at some point to play this thing on co-op. You see, it breaks my heart that anyone can have a game on their XBL profile for over 4 years at 0 gamerscore - we really need to fix that.
Halo 4 (360): I’ll make a separate post about the Global Championship when I get around to and maybe even get results this week. I’m not good at FFA unless it’s Regicide, which I’m sometimes passable at. Still, I’m happy that I’ve actually grown a little bit of brain in the game again; after the vacation break I had earlier I think I managed to somehow clog my brain or something. Now I can function again. Wooo!
Full House Poker (XBLA): I love this game. Just that someone’s got to come up with a team poker game, because this game is turning into something kind of like Regicide, a FFA game where I sometimes do tolerably. =)
The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess (GameCube): I restarted Z:TP. Just because I somehow couldn’t bring myself to continue the Wii version - I just think the GC version was better due to the fact that Wii version kept introducing these gimmicks and fucking mirrored the world.
But I had forgotten how the game speaks to me.
Tell me… Do you ever feel a strange sadness as dusk falls? They say it’s the only time when our world intersects with theirs… The only time we can feel the lingering regrets of spirits who have left our world. That is why loneliness always pervades the hour of twilight… —opening line of the game
…as someone who suffers from seasonal depression, I think this game is fucking awesome.
Some call our realm a world of shadows, but that makes it sound so unpleasant… The twilight there holds a serene beauty… You have seen it yourself as the sun sets on this world. Bathed in that light, all the people were pure and gentle… —Midna
…can’t wait to get to that part. But until then, I just have to enjoy the utter fluffiness and cute tailwagging of Wolfy Link! =)
